EEG Individual Alpha Frequencies May Predict Clinical Outcome in TMS Treatment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Recent research has explored a possible relationship between patients’ individual alpha frequency (IAF) and their response to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment. The purpose of this study was investigate correlation IAF change in the quality life (QoL) patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: Retrospective chart review performed on 55 depression from an outpatient psychiatric clinic. Subjects were aged 18-71 who completed full course at least 30 TMS treatments initially received 10 Hz treatment left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC). Baseline determined initial resting-state, 5 minutes eyes-closed dry wireless EEG (Cognionics, San Diego). Patient QoL measured before first last treatment, using question 18 Clinically Useful Depression Outcome Scale (CUDOS-18). Results: Four had two equal peaks baseline EEG. Eleven no clearly identifiable excluded. For subjects 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 Hz, % reported increase 44%, 79%, 40%, 75%, 0%, respectively. mean across all groups 12.8%. Conclusions: Patients experienced improved after most significant improvement 9 Hz. Personalizing by measuring may improve outcome terms life. Further studies are needed. Scalp EEG does not predict hemispherectomy outcome
BACKGROUND Functional hemispherectomy is effective in carefully selected patients, resulting in a reduction of seizure burden up to complete resolution, improvement of intellectual development, and developmental benefit despite possible additional neurological deficit. Despite apparent hemispheric pathology on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or other imaging tests, scalp electroencephalo...
متن کاملSequential EEG characteristics may predict seizure recurrence in rolandic epilepsy
PURPOSE The prognosis of rolandic epilepsy (RE) is considered favorable. Since a moderate proportion of cases presents with isolated seizures, continuous treatment should be considered only for frequent seizures. Clinical and electroencephalogram (EEG) markers to predict seizure recurrence need to be identified. The purpose of this study was to identify EEG criteria related to seizure recurrenc...
متن کاملTMS–EEG: From basic research to clinical applications
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) combined with electroencephalography (EEG) is a powerful technique for non-invasively studying cortical excitability and connectivity. The combination of TMS and EEG has widely been used to perform basic research and recently has gained importance in different clinical applications. In this paper, we will describe the physical and biological principles of...
متن کاملImplementation of a clinical pathway may improve alcohol treatment outcome
This article describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a clinical pathway system in a two-cohort quasi-experimental study before and after implementation, controlling for confounders. The main outcome measures were retention in care and sensible alcohol use (defined as abstinent or drinking no more than 21 standard drinks per week). Patients with harmful alcohol use or dependence ...
متن کاملEEG phenotypes predict treatment outcome to stimulants in children with ADHD.
This study demonstrates that the EEG phenotypes as described by Johnstone, Gunkelman & Lunt are identifiable EEG patterns with good inter-rater reliability. Furthermore, it was also demonstrated that these EEG phenotypes occurred in both ADHD subjects as well as healthy control subjects. The Frontal Slow and Slowed Alpha Peak Frequency and the Low Voltage EEG phenotype discriminated ADHD subjec...
